Who is AMP?

I got started in this business because of a good friend of mine.  He just opened his first restaurant, and asked me to look at his merchant account to see if he was getting a good deal, or not.

By the way, my question to him at the time was, “what’s a merchant account?

See, at the time my friend called I was focused on my business.  I had never accepted credit cards before, and didn’t know anyone that had.  I just figured you went to your bank.

Anyway, my buddy knew I was a research freak (with a Masters in Philosophy from Fordham University to prove it), so he was pretty sure I’d find him an answer.  And since I owed him a favor I really couldn’t say no.

Needless to say, after doing some digging online, I found out that he was definitely NOT getting a good deal at all.  It wasn’t even close.

The reason?  Well, for starters, he signed up under an introductory rate (or “teaser” rate) that was going up and up each month with seemingly no end in sight.  That was the reason he called me in the first place.

To make matters worse, in order to get out of the “deal” he had to pay an early termination fee to break the contract.  That’s some contract, right?  They quote you a rate, but don’t guarantee it or lock it in for any fixed time frame.

Which means, once you sign up with them they can pretty much do what they want, and you have to pay to get out of it.  Just doesn’t seem right to me…

In fact, I uncovered a lot more “insider secrets” and rip-offs in the industry.  You can find them listed in my “Merchant Account Survival Guide.”

So what happened after I broke all this down for my friend.  Well, he asked me one single question that made a huge difference in my life.  For real.  He said…

“Why don’t you set this up for me?  I’d rather you get paid than some nameless, faceless corporation.”

To be honest, I didn’t jump at the chance right away.  I had another business, and was focused on growing that.  So I discussed it with my wife, and in the morning told my friend…

“Welcome aboard.”

That was over 3 years ago.  And in that time, I went from treating this as a side business to generate some extra income into a full-time gig.  The rest, as they say, is history.

So that’s our story.
